English architect was born in 1831 and known for his country houses and commercial buildings.  He was a member of the Royal Academy and is credited for breaking away from the Victorian style and bringing back a more "modern" version of the Queen Anne style. Shaw firmly believed that architecture was an Art. As his work developed his buildings became less conspicuous and were described as charming and homey. His designs were open in design, with a quiet, country feel.
