Landscape with Snow (1888)

Landscape with Snow (1888)
Painted in February of 1888, Van Gogh painted the dreary furrowed fields of winter. A lone figure with his dog trudge toward home. Located in the Guggenheim, I was moved to view this painting this past weekend.

George Inness

Happy Birthday George Inness!! From America, this painter was born in 1825. His father set him up to be a merchant but his did not suit the dreamer Inness, so he went abroad and was influenced by English landscape painters. Though it was slow going, he returned to America to become a painter. He was intent on creating paintings depicting harmony in nature through color and tone. His colors are cool, his forms soft.
