Landscape with Snow (1888)
Painted in February of 1888, Van Gogh painted the dreary furrowed fields of winter. A lone figure with his dog trudge toward home. Located in the Guggenheim, I was moved to view this painting this past weekend.

John Sell Cotman

Happy Birthday John Sell Cotman!! English painter born in 1782, Cotman worked in watercolor and oils. He was considered one of the foremost landscape painters of the 19th century. Later in his career he began mixing rice paste with his watercolor to produce a rich, vibrant effect. Below is an example of Cotman’s watercolor: Doorway to the Refectory. It reminds me of doorways in Spain, when we walked through wine country...
