Happy Birthday Alfred Joseph Casson!! I don't believe I have written about a Canadian artist before. This painter was born in 1898. His father was an English Quaker and his mother was a Canadian. He apprenticed at an early age in a lithography company and went on to work as a commercial artist. He then apprenticed with Frank Johnston, a member of the Canadian painters known as the Group of Seven and later became a member of the group. Casson liked watercolor and even founded a group of watercolorists. His painting style was that of simple landscapes, clear colors and background spaces. The painting below is titled White Pine.
