Happy Birthday Edme Bouchardon!! The French sculptor was born in 1698, and worked under G. Coustou I until going to Rome in 1723. Although Bouchardon worked in Versailles, he is best known for his work in Paris. One of which I have included here: Cupid, which resides at the Louvre. The proper title is Cupid Fashioning a Bow Out of the Club of Hercules. I was fortunate enough to see this at the Louvre in 2006. His Cupid is sleek and slender; as always, Bouchardon’s figures are chaste and proper, his taste classical.
